Review – Childish Gambino – EP
EP – 5 out of 5
Okay, it’s about time I did a quality post on Childish Gambino. Here we go.

I first found this guy watching the television show Community, which I have to say props to that show because it is hilarious! One day I decided to Google Community and on Wikipedia I browsed through the cast list, Donald Glover acts as Troy on the show, but outside of it he’s also a writer (for 30 Rock, another one of my favorites), comedian (Derrick Comedy), actor (Mystery Team), and a rapper (Childish Gambino).
This is the best part. At first I thought he was doing joking music, but listen to any one of his tracks and you can tell he’s going pro. He’s got five mixtapes out already and this EP would make it his sixth! Gambino keeps this album to a short and sweet five songs, which was just enough to leave me wanting for more. I’ll get into the details per song below, but listening through all five songs got me amp’ed up, daydreaming, and excited for “general dopeness”.
He’s been getting a lot of hype lately with the release of this EP, but you can be sure that I will most definitely have more of Gambino here as he produces more awesome records.
Freaks And Geeks
Freaks And Geeks is the most promoted single off this EP and it deserves that notion.

Not Going Back
In Not Going Back, Gambino demonstrates just exactly what the rap game needs right now, some emotion!
Beldina Malaika, the woman who sings the outro, adds a nice touch to the gesture as well.

Be Alone
The lyrical content is extreme in this one.

Lights Turned On
This one is all about the misadventures one can have after getting tipsy and walk around the city before going back to her place.

My Shine
He stunts hard and makes it work. So quotable, so good.
