Kanye West – Power Remix
I don’t know if it was the air conditioning or not, but I legit got the goosebumps the first time I listened to the Power remix.
Remixed by the awesome DJ named Swizz Beats, Jay-Z also hopped on this song and threw some mentions at Taylor Swift as well as telling everyone how rich his is.
Kanye goes off with one of his tweets before he killed what I think is his best verse ever!
Now everything I’m rhyming on cause a Ramadan
Been a don, praying for the families lost in the storm
Bring our troops back from Iraq, keep our troops out of Iran
So the next couple bars, I’ma drop them in Islam
They say “as-salamu alaykum”, say “wa alaikum assalam”
That’s no Oscar Mayer bacon, you should run and tell your moms
Now the question is, how we going stop the next Vietnam?
Keep Flex out of Korea, ’cause you know he drop bombs
After looking up what he said in Arabic meant on Rap Genius, I got this:
Basic etiquette: when someone greets you with “as-salamu alaykum” (a greeting which basically means “peace be upon you”), you say “wa alaikum assalam” (meaning “and upon you be peace”).
Not exactly catchy as a call-and-response Kanye loves being a polarizing figure, and dropping Arabic greetings in one’s raps is possibly meant to voice tolerance for Islam at a time when people are losing their shit over an Islamic community center that contains a mosque.
Hot damn, only he could come up with something like that.
Get this song and play it. It is legendary.
